Fried Green Plantains
(Bunun Frites or Bunun Peze)
Ingredients:
4 green plantains or semi sweet green-yellow plantains
1 cup vegetable oil for frying
Salt
Instructions:
Peel the plantains and cut them into 1-inch thick slices.
Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
Add the plantain slices to the skillet and fry for 3 minutes, or until somewhat soft.
Remove the plantains from the skillet and place them on paper towels.
Take a press and flatten the plantains until they are about 1/4 of an inch thick. If you don’t have a press you can put saran wrap or foik on the counters and use a plate or flat pan to flatten
Return to the oil and fry for 3-5 minutes or until golden and crispy
Sprinkle with salt to taste.
